Charlene Whalley: woman who teased police with Where’s Wally photo found guilty of theft

Charlene Whalley, who teased police officers with a picture of Where’s Wally when they were trying to find her, has been found guilty of theft.

The 24-year-old from Heywood had the police trying to track her down for weeks after she stole £50 from a man in a local Tesco store.

Despite police efforts to resolve the matter outside of court, Whalley still didn’t hand over the money which resulted in her having to go to trial at Bury Magistrates’ court.

The court heard how Whalley had picked up the cash which had accidentally been left on the counter at the York Street store on 10 October 2014.

Following the hearing, Whalley was found guilty of theft and ordered to pay a £120 fine, with £50 compensation, a £20 victim surcharge and £110 in costs.
