PossAbilities wins top prize in national photo competition

‘Centre Stage’, a photograph of the PossAbilities annual show at The Middleton Arena

PossAbilities, a Heywood based social enterprise praised for it’s groundbreaking support for people with learning disabilities, has won the top prize in a national competition.

‘Centre Stage’, a photograph of the PossAbilities annual show at The Middleton Arena, wowed the judges of the Inspiring Images of Social Care 2016 competition in Birmingham this month, landing the prize of overall winner.

There was stiff competition from across the UK and twelve photographs were selected to be in the 2017 calendar published by Community Care, the competition organisers.

As overall winner PossAbilities also gets to nominate a charity of it’s choice to receive a cheque for £500.

Chief Executive Rachel Law said: “We are delighted, but not surprised that the judges saw the sheer joy and delight that oozes out of this photograph. It really is spectacular.”

The photographer, Paul Husband, who volunteered his time freely, captured the award winning image and was invited to nominate the charity to receive the £500 donation.

He said: “I chose The Anthony Seddon Foundation, which is a very small charity that supports people with mental health issues. Anthony sadly died at the age of 30 after a lifelong battle with mental illness. I run an arts and photography group with them. This donation will mean a lot to them.”
