Tricia Hornby, CEO of Rochdale and District Mind, with the Mayor and Mayoress at the Dementia Market Day
The newly inaugurated Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, Ray and Elaine Dutton opened a ‘Dementia Market Day’ event at Castlemere Community Centre on Thursday (19 May).
There followed a number of speakers who outlined the dementia pathway and gave information regarding the memory clinic, diagnostic and post diagnostic services.
The speakers were then available for question and answer session and a number of people were keen to have questions answered.
The session culminated in a number of ‘market stall holders’ giving a brief overview of their service, which complimented the diagnostic services as the next step along the pathway. This included a range of community support services available to support people who may experience Dementia and their families and carers.
A number of people who attended the event also became ‘Dementia Friends’ and were able to receive their ‘Dementia Friend badge’.
A spokesperson for the event organisers, Rochdale & District Mind, said: "The event attracted a large number of people exceeding our expectations."
