Grieving daughter raising funds to give mum “the flowers and memorial plaque she deserves”

Date published: 14 May 2016

Having spent her last pounds on an emergency flight from Australia after the death of her mum, Carly Radoslav is seeking to raise funds to give her mother, Sue Haslam, “the flowers and memorial plaque she deserves”.

Rochdale-born Carly, 29, arrived back from her home in Melbourne after hearing the news that her beloved mum had lost her battle with breast cancer aged 62.

Having spent £2,000 on a last minute flight, Carly found herself out of money and began to think of ways she could raise the funds for a plaque and some flowers for her mum and to help the family at this difficult time.

Carly’s friends recommended she set up a page to help her get the money together.

She said: “This isn’t something I would normally do, I feel really odd asking people for the help, but after talking with friends I thought perhaps people may wish to donate for mum.

“Losing my mum broke my heart, not least because I live on the other side of the world now and I never got to say a real goodbye. This is my way of doing that, by giving her the plaque and flowers she deserves. She loved pink carnations, simple and elegant just like her."

Susan lived her whole life in Rochdale and worked as a domestic supervisor. After being diagnosed with breast cancer on Boxing Day 2013, Carly flew over to ensure she was with her at her first chemotherapy session and continued to support her via Skype afterwards.

Carly got to see her mum one last time in August 2015 when she flew home to surprise her, a memory she says will stay with her forever.

Susan died on 7 May at the Royal Oldham Hospital.

Carly added: “She just wanted to make others happy, she did not have a bad bone in her body. She always put others first and she was such a proud mum. I was her absolute world. Everyone always remembered her even only after meeting her once and she was so loved by so many people.

“Any extra money that we manage to make will be donated to the Macmillan cancer nurses. They really did an outstanding job. I’m just so grateful for this, so thank you to everyone that is helping me organise this.”

Susan's cremation and memorial service will take place at Rochdale Crematorium, Bury Road, Rochdale on Wednesday 18 May at 3pm.

Carly asks that anyone who wishes wears a touch of green as well as traditional black funeral attire as green was her mum's favourite colour.

There will be a wake after the funeral at The Dyers Arms, 157 Whitelees Road, Littleborough. All are welcome to attend.
