Emergency fund appeal for Littleborough’s Boxing Day flood disaster raises £17,000

The appeal launched to help people affected the disastrous flooding which damaged properties in Littleborough on Boxing Day 2015 has raised close to £17,000.

Collecting cans and buckets were distributed around the Littleborough area.

Local groups also supported the initiative by holding fundraising events of their own and donating the proceeds to the Emergency Fund.

The Lions club also made an appeal to Lions Clubs International, which realised a donation of £1,000 from its North West District HQ.

The overall result to date has been that just over £9,300 has been received in donations from individuals, businesses and groups.

The Lions club also applied to the Government’s Department for Communities and Local Government for match funding and has been granted £7,500 bringing the total raised to just over £16,800.

In consultation with other bodies, it has been decided that the fairest way to distribute the money is to divide the accumulated fund equally between the properties concerned. Therefore each affected property is entitled to receive a cheque for £100 to help offset some of the additional expenses experienced because of the flooding.

Letters of offer are being sent out as appropriate.
