Emergency services on College Road
An eight-year-old boy was rushed to hospital on Thursday night (12 May) after a town centre car crash.
Emergency services arrived at the junction of College Road and St Mary's Gate shortly after 6.30pm after a Volkswagen Transporter camper van and a Renault Megane collided.
Paramedics removed the boy by stretcher before taking him to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers arrived on scene and closed off the roads while paramedics were seeing to the eight-year-old boy. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries and the road remained closed until he was removed and the oil spillage was cleared up.”
No one else is known to have been hurt in the incident.
An oil spillage on the road led to the arrival of the Highways dept who helped clear up the area.
Greater Manchester Police closed College Road from St Mary’s Gate to Mellor Street and Holland Street to the junction of Mitchell Street while investigations took place.
