GMP versus Youth at five-a-side football

Date published: 03 May 2016

Rochdale Youth Service organised a five-a-side football tournament with members of Friday Night Fusion taking on GMP officers.

The tournament was played in two stages, the first 90 mins saw GMP officers play against the under 16s whilst the second phase saw a tiring GMP team take on the over 16s.

PC Rhys Ibbotson, who captained the GMP team, said: “It was great to participate in this event as we were able to build positive relationships with so many young people.”

Mohammed Zarafat, Area Youth Worker for Rochdale Youth Service, said: “It’s really positive to see such diversity in the participants who attend each week.

“The young people are attending from various areas of Rochdale and the session is growing from strength-to-strength as we are about to launch a Duke of Edinburgh element to the sessions for the young people in the forthcoming weeks.”

Sohail Ahmed added: “It was fantastic that the officers gave up their time to come and participate in in this activity. PC Rhys and his colleagues built up a great relationship with the young people. Hopefully we will build on this together with a range of further team building activities and challenges.”

Friday Night Fusion is every Friday evening from 6.30pm to 8.00pm for under 16s and 8.00pm to 9.30pm for over 16s and welcomes new members.
