Aiza Rashid wins public speaking competition

Date published: 03 May 2016

Aiza Rashid has won a public speaking competition for schools.

Azia, along with Harriet Sutton, both members of Matthew Moss High School debating club, competed at the event held by Heywood Rotary Club.

Speakers had three minutes to talk about a subject that was important to them.

Aiza's speech about the labelling and categorisation of people with disabilities won the event.

Harriet came fourth speaking about female roles in Disney films and the negative impact these roles have on young girls.

A spokesperson for Matthew Moss High School said: "They were both incredibly nervous but overcame their nerves to speak confidently and maturely about complex topics. They did themselves, and the school, proud."
