St Cuthbert's RC High School

Date published: 30 April 2016

As part of a year 9 PE programme. Mr Rogerson’s classes are undertaking a 'state of mind' programme which aims to highlight the importance of mental health and to open up about issues within sport and in school among young men. This week we were joined by Will Stringer and ex Super League player Danny Sculthorpe, who made over 70 senior appearances for Wigan Warriors. Danny suffered with depression and anxiety following a bad injury during his time at Bradford Bulls and gave an excellent speech about the impact this had on his family and work life.

In other news, our year 10 and 11 football teams have reached the Rochdale Cup Final. Our year 11 team beat Kingsway Park 4-3 in their semi-final and the year 10 team beat Beech House 10-0 in their semi-final game. Our Year 9 and Year 10 boys’ rugby teams have also progressed into the final of the Rochdale Rugby finals which will be held at Spotland Stadium on Wednesday 11 May after winning the earlier competitions.

To conclude, our Year 10 boys’ handball team have also been invited to represent Rochdale Schools on Thursday 26 May at MMU in Cheshire, to compete in the North West Handball competition after winning their regional play offs beating two other schools.
