School Award

We are delighted that the school has been awarded the Stage 1 'Inspiring IAG` award as a measure of our work in the area of careers education, information advice and guidance. We will now work towards the next stage. Thank you for the efforts of the staff in Team IAG who have ensured this continued success.

Year 11 Reviews

Thank you to parents / carers for your positive input and contributions to the Year 11 reviews which are currently taking place. Clearly a vital aspect of the review is to discuss the transition process for September into Post 16 options of Hopwood college, Redwood 6th Form or the REEC (Redwood Education and Enterprise Centre). A detailed programme of transition activities will be circulated in the next few weeks.

Playground resources

We will be exploring the possibilities with our youngsters of developing our playground provision this term and having discussions with them on the type of inclusive activities they would like to see on the playgrounds.

Young Leaders visit to the Theatre of Dreams

Our Young Leaders have taken part in a training programme today at Old Trafford to continue with their development in supporting other youngsters in physical activities. What an opportunity for the group..

Joint dance programme with Oulder Hill

This week a group of our youngsters have entered into a dance programme activity with students from Oulder Hill which will result in a celebration event towards the end of term.

KS3

Everybody in Key Stage 3 took part in the Performing Arts curriculum days this week. On Monday there were lots of activities including circus skills, script writing, clowning, joke telling and dance. All of the students had the chance to perform in the Showcase on Tuesday afternoon, which was fantastic.
 
Other News
Miss McChrystal is a new teacher in Key Stage 3 and is taking over from Mr Hall for this term.
 
KS4

As part of their Enterprise work 4U are growing from seed, Chilli Plants which will be sold at a profit at the end of the year.  Each student is responsible for an individual plant which they need to water regularly in order to win the ‘Best Chilli Plant’ competition which will be independently judged.  Students have enjoyed looking after the plants and have named them appropriately.  We will keep you updated with the Chilli Plants progress every couple of weeks.
 
SEB have been exploring outer space this week. They have made alien masks, decorated a helmet and had lots of lovely space related sensory experiences.
 
KS5

Student of the week: Sohail for communication, showing lots of engagement, smiling and laughing during Art lesson.
 
Most Improved: Jason for for being really enthusiastic and joining in with wheelchair dancing.
 
In Maths we have started a new topic based on sorting, sequencing and patterns. Some students copied complex patterns whilst others created their own.
 
In vocational education students on the Skills for Independence route have started a unit on horticulture. This week we focused on identifying and naming the different pieces of equipment.
 
Student’s celebrated Aysha’s 18th birthday, her mum brought party food in at lunch time. We ate pakora, kebab, naan and samosa. We sang happy birthday.

Extended Schools club programme

A reminder that the after school clubs, youth clubs and weekend youth clubs are now in operation and more details can be found on the school website. As we approach the summer activity period, why not take the opportunity to access some of these opportunities. Details of the summer club programme will be circulated in the near future to enable parent / carers to book a place.

Spotlight on Safeguarding

This week the team's focus is on the many different aspects of 'Online Behaviour' in relation to the inappropriate use of social networking. This is part of our spotlight on safeguarding issues and this will be discussed in assemblies and tutorial lessons in a variety of ways to meet the youngsters level of understanding on this issue.
