Celebrating Queen's birthday at Sunshine Pre-school Playgroup

Date published: 23 April 2016

Children at Sunshine Preschool Playgroup enjoyed celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday on Thursday. Sunshine is based at Deeplish Sure Start Children’s Centre, which is hub for children’s and families activities and services.

The Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations included learning about the Queen, recognising the Union Jack flag and enjoying scones with jam and cream for snack.

The children learnt through their play by colouring flags, looking at different photos of the Queen and preparing their snack.

The day tied in very well with children learning British values and meeting the EYFS outcomes.

Shabina Kauser, pre-school manager, said: “We are really pleased that the weather was on our side and the children were able to enjoy this momentous occasion.

"It’s important to teach our pres-chool children about our values, heritage and culture whilst learning and celebrating in an enjoyable learning environment.”

Sohail Ahmad, manager at Deeplish Centre, said: “We are proud to promote community cohesion and celebrate British values at Deeplish Community Centre.

“Our pre-school team is dedicated to working with children and families from diverse background, cultures and we take pride in making a difference in children’s lives.”
