Which candidates want your vote in the local elections?

Date published: 22 April 2016

With just under two weeks to go to polling day for the local elections, we take a look at how serious candidates are at wanting your vote.

The Lib Dems head up the table in terms of numbers of election pitches submitted for Rochdale Online readers to view on our election pages - all 14 of their candidates having taken the time to explain why they think you should vote for them.

Both Independents have also submitted pitches.

The Labour party candidates clearly also want your vote with 85% of their candidates submitting a pitch.

Despite it's attempt to be seen as a serious alternative to the three main parties, only 60% of UKIP candidates have so far bothered to explain why you should vote for them.

However, that is still considerably better than the poor showing of Conservative candidates - less than half of whom have taken the time to submit pitches.

Only 25% of the Green candidates have submitted ptiches.

Party Candidates Pitches Submitted Percentage
Labour 20 17 85%
Conservative 20 9 45%
UKIP 15 9 60%
Liberal Democrat 14 14 100%
Green 12 3 25%
Independent 2 2 100%
Trade Unionists and Socialists Against Cuts 1 0 0%

The local council is responsible for a surprising number of services that you use and rely on every day, from housing to street lighting, education to pub licensing, parking to care for the elderly. That's why your vote can make a real difference.
