Talent show raises money for Grace's Place

Date published: 19 April 2016

English language learners from Hopwood Hall College organised an internationally-flavoured talent show to raise money for Grace's Place Children’s Hospice.

The students leapt at the chance to demonstrate their numerous talents at a celebration of world culture.

The myriad talents on display included: musical, fashion, comedy and dance shows, representing the cultures of: Pakistan, Algeria, Korea, Iran, Cameroon, Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, Congo and Kurdistan, to name a few.

In a twist to a typical talent show, food was also on display; fellow students (who acted as the judges) also got to sample delicious traditional foods from Eritrea, Pakistan, Iran, Syria and Poland.

Winner of the food competition was Sara Afsharian with her remarkable international salad. Joint winners of the performance category were Michal and David Cervenak.

High demand for ticket sales, and also the generosity of learners who were unable attend, led to a final total of £129.23 raised in support of Grace's Place Children’s Hospice in Radcliffe.

Grace’s Place is one of only 50 children’s hospices in the country and is a sanctuary dedicated to providing palliative and end of life care for children from Oldham, Rochdale, Middleton, Heywood and Bury.
