Simon Danczuk thanks anonymous donor for boosting marathon funds

Date published: 16 April 2016

Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk has thanked the generous stranger who has contributed £500 to his London Marathon fundraising efforts.

Mr Danczuk will take on the gruelling 26 mile run next weekend in a bid to raise money for Rochdale based homelessness charity Petrus Community.

Among the many contributions already made, one kind sponsor (who wishes to remain anonymous), has donated £500.

The money will help Petrus provide services to help homeless people in Rochdale.

Mr Danczuk said: “All donations, big or small, will make a huge difference to my chosen charity which does such incredible work helping homeless people in Rochdale.

“This is an especially generous contribution from someone who clearly understands just how vital Petrus is to our local community.

“Homelessness is a growing problem in Rochdale and across Greater Manchester. Petrus provides a crucial lifeline to help people off the street, runs several drop-in sessions for vulnerable groups and works to tackle the increasing cases of ‘hidden homelessness’.

“My training for the marathon is going well and while I certainly won’t be setting any world records, I am looking forward to taking part and raising money for a charity very close to my heart.”
