Mayoress of Rochdale Councillor Cecile Biant hosted an afternoon tea party to raise money for the Mayor’s charities on Wednesday (13 April).

The Town Hall was buzzing with guests who arrived at 2.00pm for a welcome drink from the house butler.

Afternoon tea was served in the Great Hall, with live music on the grand piano along with a violin performance.

A showcase of ballroom dancing took place as everyone sat back and enjoyed the afternoon, which is believed to have raised a substantial amount for the Mayor’s charities including Springhill Hospice, Petrus and Shopmobility.

Lady Mayoress Cecile Biant said: “This afternoon has brought mayors and mayoresses from across the region including Manchester and Wigan.

“I would like to thank them for attending. We would like to raise as much money as possible for the mayor’s charities to support them as much as we can.”

The mayor’s charities that benefitted from the fundraising are:

  • Springhill Hospice - a 16 bedded purpose-built facility offering specialist palliative care to patients and their families from diagnosis to end-of-life.
  • Petrus - Petrus provide residential and day support services for people in housing need throughout Rochdale borough, Rossendale and Oldham.
  • Shopmobility - providing manual powered wheelchairs, powered scooters and volunteer escorts to help people who have limited mobility shop with ease and enjoyment in Rochdale's town centre.
  • Rochdale Deaf Children’s Society - a local group run by parents and carers of deaf children, working together with local health and educational professionals.
  • Pakeeza Women’s Group – works with women who suffer from isolation.
