Date published: 15 April 2016

The sixth Doggy Dash for Life event at Hollingworth Lake was another huge success this year, raising a whopping £1,800 for Cancer Research UK.

Dog owners from across the borough brought their pooches in an array of interesting outfits for the exciting race which brought generous sponsors from near and far.

Kath O’Donnell, a member of Littleborough group the Three Amigos who helped organise the event, says that the last five years have been a great success and that the sixth was no exception.

She said: “It is like Race for Life, only you can get your dogs sponsored. It has been well supported and great for all the family. We have had great sponsorship this year from Crown House Vets and Ad Manum consultants, and we are very grateful for their support.”

She added: “The day was sunny and bright which is perfect for taking your dogs for a walk, and we had approximately 180 people attending.

“The atmosphere was fantastic, there was excitement in the air from the dogs. All shapes and sizes came to support the cause, they were all given a pink Neckerchief, to wear, material kindly donated by Cleland McIver Ltd, Littleborough.

“We had the fastest time around the Lake this year, first home was dog Kodi and owner Carl Panter, they won goodies from Buff.

“We had dogs wearing pink fancy dress and we had a competition for the best one.

“They all were great and we decided to share the winners, Darcy and owner Sue Okun and Paddy owner Ria Roberts. This year’s event was kindly sponsored by Crown Vets, Rochdale and Ad Manum Consultants.

“The goodie bags we gave out at the end of the circuit included goodies kindly donated by, Royal Canin, Burns, Fish 4 Dogs, Nature Diet, Sea Treats, Pet Fleas, Protexin, Global Herbs, Costco, Sunshine Snacks.

“The event raised £1,800 for Cancer Research UK, with some sponsorship money still to be collected.”
