Date published: 14 April 2016

The programme director for Heywood Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group’s (HMR CCG) pioneering ‘test beds’ project has started in post and he’s committed to making a positive impact on health.

Dr Shaaz Mahboob, will head up to the two year pilot which aims to better predict and prevent ill health like heart and respiratory disease by offering patients who are flagged up a treatment plan to allow them to improve their lifestyles, under the guidance of their GPs.

On speaking of his directorship of the project, Mr Mahboob said: “I feel energised by the concept of incorporating new forms of technology and trialling new ways of working into traditional NHS services to help prevent the population of Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale from developing long term health conditions. I believe that this initiative, led by HMR CCG, will not only deliver a healthier population but will have a positive long term impact on the wider economy of HMR and across Greater Manchester in the future."

Mr Mahboob began his career in clinical medicine but changed to healthcare management after completing an MBA degree from University of Nottingham. Amongst other achievements he has gained a Fellowship in Quality Improvement from the CLAHRC North West London (National Institute of Health Research) and is a Managing Successful Programmes Practitioner.

Since 2002 he has worked for the NHS and Department of Health in numerous senior management roles across the UK. He has extensive Public Health experience as well as having worked for Health Education England and local CCGs. He has also had the opportunity to perform some unique roles during his career such as leading on International Recruitment and managing Health Units at Heathrow Airport.
