Dale-Con fundraising dinner with the stars

Date published: 13 April 2016

With plans fully in place for this year’s Dale-Con event being held in Rochdale Town Hall attention has been turned to the eve of the convention.

Sci-Fi guests are arriving ahead of time to join in the annual charity fundraiser which is this year being held in The Flying Horse Hotel, Packer Street thanks to landlord and self-confessed sci-fi geek Ben Boothman.

Ben said: “Ever since Flash Gordon himself was announced I was keen to be involved, I’ve attended each year with the family and this time it’s right on the doorstep so I was only too happy to be a part of this unique Rochdale event.”

The evening will consist of a three course meal, entertainment and fundraising auctions of things with a difference with all proceeds going to the Cathy Stankevitch Foundation; former Rochdale Hornets coach, John Stankevitch, lost his mum in tragic circumstances in 2015 and has put a lot of energy into creating a foundation to ensure her positivity and good nature lives on – the night is celebrating a very positive event for Rochdale Town Centre so the connection was simple.

John commented: “With a new foundation it’s very hard to get it seen by the public, but we’ve received massive support from people and businesses in mum’s home town and from many people who I’ve played with or done business with over the years; Rochdale has always remained close to my heart so I was honoured when Dale-Con wanted to work with the foundation.”

Organiser Martin Ballard said: “Each year we choose a charity and John’s foundation is perfect to help as it reflects everything positive about the event and his message – the two day event is going to bring people from all over the country, and the Dinner with the Stars night is all about thanking them for coming to Rochdale and raising a few quid at the same time.”

With limited seating of 88 people in the Flying Horse tickets are selling fast, so to ensure you are part of what will be an epic warm-up to the greatest sci-fi event ever held in the town make sure you book your tickets now for Saturday and Sunday 18 and 19 June.
