Woman fined over Middleton fly-tipping

Date published: 12 April 2016

A woman has been fined after Rochdale Borough Council investigated rubbish dumped in Middleton.

The council’s environmental action team examined bags of rubbish that were reported by a local resident on Higher Wood Street, Middleton in August 2015.

The team found several items of correspondence in the waste that were traced to Lisa Grant, 36, from Barleyfield Walk, Middleton.

At Bury and Rochdale Magistrates’ Court on 6 April Grant pleaded guilty to failing to take all reasonable steps on the transfer of her waste. She was fined £80 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 as well as £70.76 in compensation and a £300 contribution towards costs.

Mark Widdup, director of neighbourhoods at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “Fly-tipping is a crime. The council investigates all complaints of fly-tipping and won’t hesitate to take action against both people who dump waste and those who the waste originally belonged to, if they fail to organise its proper removal by an authorised business.”

Residents can report fly-tipping anonymously at www.rochdale.gov.uk/flytipping or by calling 0300 303 8884. Provide as much information as possible, such as the location, the offenders address, vehicle registration and the time of the incident. All information will be treated confidentially.
