Planning application expected to be scrapped after 300 objections

Date published: 05 April 2016

Hundreds of objections have flooded in from Middleton residents who strongly oppose plans to build 88 new homes, land to the west of Hollin Lane, Middleton (opposite St Anne’s Academy).

The Middleton Township Planning Sub Committee voted unanimously to refuse the application after concerns were raised about the entrance and strain on nearby roads.

Although the final decision will be announced in May, the Council has received over 300 objections to the plans along with strong opposition from Middleton councillors, who agree that the project should not go ahead.

North Middleton Councillor Chris Furlong expects the plans to be thrown out. He said: “After so many objections from councillors, residents and even officers, I just can’t see how the committee can put this through.”

The report reads: “The application fails to demonstrate that the proposed site access will facilitate the safe movement of vehicles, pedestrians and other users of the highway, to the detriment of the safety and efficiency of the local highway network.”

The planning and licencing meeting took place last night (Monday 4 April), although the final decision will be confirmed next month.
