“Prolific burglar” Simon Hulme put behind bars

Date published: 04 April 2016

Simon Hulme, labelled by police as one of Rochdale’s most prolific burglars, has been put behind bars.

Hulme, of William Street, Deeplish, targeted elderly residents and smashed windows to gain entry to their homes.

One offence involved a 64-year-old waking up to find Hulme stood in his kitchen. He fled the scene but caused over £200 damage.

Not 24 hours later, he smashed the window of an 82-year-old lady and left blood on the curtains.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Simon Hulme, one of Rochdale's most prolific burglars, has been sentenced.

"This is really good news for Rochdale residents, no matter what age.

“Officers worked tirelessly to apprehend this man and this carried on until he was finally brought to justice.

“We assure you we are still working as hard as ever to capture all the burglars in our area who bring misery to the hardworking and honest residents who live here.”

Hulme pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and was sentenced at Manchester Minshull Street Court on Thursday (24 March).
