Spin-a-thon raises over £2,000

Date published: 04 April 2016

Spin instructor Shelly Burns has been steering Springhill Hospice supporters in the right direction again this year, raising over £2,000, enabling hospice’s doctors and nurses to care for patients at the end of their lives.

Shelly, along with over 30 spin enthusiasts of all ages and abilities, took to her spin bike to replicate the gym’s 2015 hugely successful spin-a-thon. Three hours of sweat and hard work proved worthwhile, nearly doubling last year’s total, raising £2,153.90.

“Everyone who took part put in 100% for Springhill Hospice. It’s a place close to many people’s hearts which you could tell from the physical and fundraising efforts that participants and sponsors have gone to” said Shelly.

“We’re already talking about next year’s Spin-a-thon, taking inspiration from our spinners’ enthusiasm, we’re hoping that our 2017 event will run through an entire week. We’ve got some great ideas for expanding our efforts, enabling us to encourage and include more supporters."

Community Support Fundraiser Barbara Lloyd said: “By combining fitness, fun, enthusiasm and a desire to help people in their community, Shelly and her band of spinners have really made a difference. The money they have raised can do so much, anything from funding counselling sessions and patient’s meals to sponsoring a Day Hospice Well Being Day.

"Thank you to everyone who took part and roll on next year... or should I say spin.”
