Jessica Gardiner given suspended jail sentence after nine-month-old baby drowns in bath

Date published: 01 April 2016

Jessica Anne Gardiner, from Littleborough, was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for two years, after her baby drowned in the bath while left unsupervised.

Baby Lucy Booth was just nine months old when the incident happened at the family home in May 2015.

Gardiner admitted gross negligence manslaughter at Manchester Crown Court.

The court heard how she left the baby, along with two other young children, in the bath for an unspecified amount of time, before returning to the bathroom and discovering that the baby had drowned.

Staff at Royal Oldham Hospital battled to resuscitate baby Lucy but it was too late.
