Terri Cowley and Hollie Dixon named in national media as amongst “Britain’s cruellest criminals”

Terri Cowley and Hollie Dixon, the cruel mother and daughter who were caught on camera stealing money from a 75-year-old man they were supposed to be caring for, have been named in the national media as amongst “Britain’s cruellest criminals”.

Cowley and Dixon pocketed cash and stuffed notes into their bras while they were supposed to be working as the carers of retired pub landlord Norman Halsall.

Having received only a suspended sentence, the pair proceeded to throw their hands in the air in celebration, before verbally abusing reporters who were outside the court.

Today (Wednesday 30 March), The Daily Mail reported the callous pair as some of Britain’s cruellest criminals, with the headline: “Caught on camera, Britain's cruellest criminals: The trusted carers who steal from vulnerable patients - and how you can stop them.”

In a list of six similar cases nationally, Cowley and Dixon came in at number three.

75-year-old Norman, who suffers from heart problems, told Rochdale Online how the ordeal has stopped him wanting to socialise because he cannot trust anyone in the same way as before.

He said: “I trusted them both. They seemed personable and friendly people, and as they are related to me I would never have imagined something like this could happen. I even went out for meals with them and I really enjoyed it.

He added: “When you are elderly and you have a carer and sometimes that’s the only person you get to see in a day. You naturally form a relationship with them. You naturally trust them. This has set me back a bit to be honest, I’ve been struggling.”
