Castleton “crime wave” continues as Old Post Office Ale House ransacked again

Date published: 29 March 2016

Locals have spoken of their disgust after burglars ransacked the Old Post Office Ale House for the second time in weeks.

The family run business was still recovering from the last break in on 14 March, when burglars hacked their way through a boarded up window and made off with thousands of pounds of cash and stock.

During the early hours of Easter Monday, the offenders broke in through the roof, once again taking stock, cash and CCTV equipment.

Barmaid Laura Paige, who opened up the pub on Monday, said: “The second I came through the door I knew what had happened, there was light coming from the back where there was a hole in the roof.

“They took bottles of whisky, vodka and cash, only this time nowhere near as much because we don’t leave the cash box out any more.”

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers were called to The Old Post Office Ale House at 1.06pm on Easter Monday after reports of a burglary. Offenders entered the building through the roof and made off with cash, alcohol and CCTV.

“Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward as soon as possible.”

Councillor Billy Sheerin said: “I am absolutely disgusted, and annoyed, and angry. Castleton is clearly experiencing some sort of crime wave at the moment and we needs links. We need help. We need action.

“Someone somewhere has information which could help us locate these vile criminals. I urge them to come forward as soon as possible to stamp out the crime which is going on in the village.”

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward by calling 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
