“Stop vandalising our village”, say Castleton pupils

Date published: 24 March 2016

Pupils from St Edward's CoE Primary School have called on vandals to stop defacing Castleton with graffiti.

The year six youngsters are working on a project instigated by the Bishop of York called “how can you improve where you live”, and they say the sprayed initials all over Castleton are spoiling the area that they are proud of.

The messy scrawls with the initials “SIK” have started to appear all over Castleton, with brightly coloured paint on the walls of Queensway, Arrow Mill and electricity boxes along Manchester Road.

Councillor Billy Sheerin met with the disgruntled pupils to share their concerns. He said: “I have asked youths in the village if they can identify this individual who has made a visual mess. They are making our village look awful, much to the annoyance of the school children trying to making our village better and also upsetting masses of local residents.

“This selfish act shows a lack of respect and we don’t want individuals like this in our village. This is classified as anti-social behavior and carries a hefty penalty to pay for its removal.”

Councillor Sheerin has offered his mobile number for anyone who might have information about the vandals. If you can help, call: 07931 896031.
