Council owned car park in Milnrow is being used as a car sales pitch

A council owned car park in Milnrow is being used as a car sales pitch.

Local resident Duncan Hannant said he was "aghast" to find a number of cars for sale in the car park at the bottom of Cornfield Street/Newhey Road, Milnrow.

He said: “I am not against entrepreneurship, but these car parks are for residents to use when visiting their friends, shops and businesses in our village, and not to provide a free car display, blocking it for the law-abiding residents of our community.

“We have a high number of older residents living in our community who need access to car parks in order to go about their lives, I for one oppose this selfish use of community facilities.

Councillor Neil Butterworth said: "I am not against residents selling their car on the highway, but do object to this illegitimate use of council amenities of personal gain."

Martin Taylor, Rochdale Borough Council’s Head of Environmental Management, said: “We received reports about vehicles being sold from the Cornfield Street car park and our environmental wardens visited the site.

“Although no vehicles for sale were found during the visit we will continue to monitor the situation.

“Residents with any specific information about vehicles advertised for sale on this land should report it to the council.

“Reports should include the car make, model, contact telephone number and photographs where possible.”
