St Thomas' Church new sound system

Date published: 22 March 2016

Sermons at St Thomas' Church in Kirkholt will soon be heard loud and clear.

Rochdale Council has awarded the church a £5,200 grant for a new sound system.

The bid for the funds to the Rochdale Township committee was made by local councillor Richard Farnell. He said: "The new sound system will be a boon for the church and the local community too. There are lots of public events held in the community hall at the church, but it's difficult sometimes to hear what's going on. Now with the new sound system everything will be crystal clear.

"We are short of public places to meet and hold events on Kirkholt and St Thomas' meets a real community need.

Rev Angela Bryan, vicar, said: "Our present sound system is limited and doesn't provide a hearing loop system for hearing aid users.

"The new one will make our whole building ideal for social events and meetings for the local community, as well as being accessible to all. It will help us move towards our church vision of 'Extending God's welcome'.

"I would like to thank our local councillors for their support in securing the grant from the council."
