Judo Sessions with gold medal winner Simon Jackson

Our Year 11 GCSE PE students have been working with Simon Jackson to improve their Judo skills.

Simon is a well-known Judo player who won a gold medal in the Paralympic games.

Our pupils have been attending sessions with him every Wednesday after school and due to the work that they have been doing they are going to achieve excellent grades in this area of their GCSE PE course.

The Fourth and Final ‘Speaking For Ourselves’ Workshop

Our Year 9 Drama students took their final visit to the three schools this week as we attended our fourth and final session for the successful ‘Speaking For Ourselves’ visit.

The group went along to Saint Ambrose Barlow R.C. Community School in Swinton to attend a special two hour workshop to explore the issues of homelessness and how they might impact on young people.

The workshop involved a range of practical and group tasks and students reflected on their learning over the course of all the sessions. Many thanks to all the students and staff who made the sessions so hugely enjoyable and effective. The project has led to many friendships and some great work.

Odeon: The “Rediscover Cinema” Brief

Well done to Yr10 Photography students who pitched their fantastic ideas to Odeon Industry Mentors in response to the “Odeon: The “Rediscover Cinema” Brief”.

The mentors were extremely impressed with the creative ideas and confident presentation skills of the students. Congratulations to the winning team, Dylan Hassett, Hanjala Ahmed, Iram Farooq, and Sumaya Nila, who will now pitch their idea to Odeon in London on the 12 April.

They will compete against other schools from around the country and if they win will receive £100 worth of high street vouchers and will be included on “The Ladder”, an exclusive progression group in which there is an array of opportunities so that they can get a head-start into the creative industries.
