REAG clean Manchester Road and Long Hill, Sudden

Date published: 21 March 2016

Members of the Rochdale Environmental Action Group (REAG) was joined and supported by Tracey Anderton, the local PCSO, to clean the area between Manchester Road and Long Hill, Sudden.

They found parts of cars, quilts, pillows, litter and rubbish some of which was moveable, some was heavy, on the slope and needed support from the Environment Management.

They also found abandoned bins left in the passage/steps leading to Manchester Road. These will be reported to the Environment Management for appropriate action.

Near the steps from Long Hill leading to Manchester Road, members found a heap of litter and rubbish, prams, boxes, used broken furniture, vacuum parts, part of cars, etc.

These items were heavy and on the steep hill, therefore, these were left for the Environment Management to remove with proper equipment.

Next week, members of the REAG will take a break because of Easter and will continue with the clean ups afterwards.

Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE, Secretary of REAG, said: “We all have a social and moral responsibility to keep our area/town tidy. The Local Authority spends millions of pounds to keep our roads, streets and areas clean. If we keep our areas clean and put recycling materials in separate bins already provided then we can make a difference and make Rochdale more beautiful and flowery town. Please keep Rochdale tidy.”
