Greater Manchester Transport Strategy

Date published: 17 March 2016

The draft Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2040 is to be considered by Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) at a meeting tomorrow (Friday 17 March). The plans cover regional transport developments over the next 25 years.

The strategy sets out a vision for the transport network for Greater Manchester and its needs by 2040 to deliver 'world class connections that support long-term sustainable economic growth and access to opportunities for all'.

The document does not include details on transport schemes or investment priorities at this stage, but provides a vision of what a successful transport system might look like in 2040, to support Greater Manchester’s wider economic, social and environmental ambitions.

Members are being asked to review the draft ahead of proposed consultation during summer 2016.

Greater Manchester Interim Mayor Tony Lloyd said: “A transport strategy might not sound exciting in itself, but it will affect the transport options that people travelling into and around Greater Manchester make each and every day, so is absolutely vital to everyone."
