‘Making Your Mark’ Year 9 Drama for Year 7 Students

Year 9 Drama spent several lessons preparing a short scripted performance titled ‘Making Your Mark’ for Year 7 Arts Award students this week. The performance centred around the notion of cave painting in the Mesolithic and Neolithic.

In groups of six, students delivered their performances and the audience provided constructive feedback. The student audience also completed a short participatory activity and a performance review following the show which they will add to their Bronze Portfolios. Next week, Year 9 students will be assessed for the piece. For more details, contact Mr De Courcey.

G5 Hedgehog Rescue Centre Foodbank Aid

Over the past few weeks, the tutor group G5 have been busy making the rounds across school to gather tins of dog and cat food for the Rochdale based Hedgehog Rescue Centre.

The charity provides much need support for the injured or stranded animals and students gathered over two boxes full of food for the prickly animals to see them into Spring. Well done to all our students for their generosity. For more details, contact Mr Ashton or Mr De Courcey.

Speaking For Ourselves’ Session 3 Workshop at FPHS

Forty Five Year 9 students from FPHS, Ambrose Barlow Secondary School and Abraham Moss Secondary School attended the third session of the ‘Speaking For Ourselves’ Project at our school in the last few days of February.

The students braved the snow to attend the two hour workshop based around identity, community and values. The session involved extended roleplay as students were expected to ‘think like a teacher’ and some of our students event took to participating in costume.

Students were asked to create a values manifesto and plan a short lesson plan to teach to others. We were tremendously impressed by the quantity and quality of work produced and our Year 9 learners made us very proud.

The three schools have formed some strong friendships and our learners are really benefiting from the new experiences. For more details about the project and the session, contact Mr De Courcey.

‘Remix’ Music Show Promotional Assemblies

Year 10 Music students have been busy organising and presenting a series of promotional assemblies over the past week in anticipation for the latest Music Showcase titled ‘Remix’ which will be held later this year.

The students performed a range of contemporary vocal and instrumental pieces and discussed their plans for the show and their charity fundraising intentions.

Students will be selling specially designed wristbands and tickets for the show are on sale now from the CEPA Office at breaktimes, lunchtimes or after school. For more details, please contact Ms Williams or Mr Lancaster.

CEPA Faculty Visit to Stonehenge

A small group of Year 9 and 10 Drama students accompanied Mr De Courcey to Wiltshire on Friday last week in order to pay a visit to the famous Stonehenge World Heritage Site.

Students explored Woodhenge, Durrington Walls, Stonehenge, New Kings Barrows and the Stonehenge Cursus, the new Visitor’s Centre, Silsbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow, Avebury Avenue and Avebury Stone Circles and Henge.

The students enjoyed the great weather and returned home exhausted but smiling after a brilliant day out. We set off at 5.00am outside school and returned home at 9.30pm after a journey of over 1000 miles.

Students discovered a great deal about prehistoric architecture and culture and we all had a fantastic time. For more details, see Mr De Courcey.
