‘Wings’ quiz raises £1,500 for Hospice

Date published: 15 March 2016

When it’s a question of fundraising Ken Smith has all the answers. Ken’s now infamous annual quiz has raised thousands of pounds for Springhill Hospice with this edition being no different.

This year every fiendishly clever question had an answer on a ‘Wings’ theme. Some were simple questions such as ‘Wait for the green man here (7,8)’ – Pelican Crossing. However, it was the not so simple ones that sorted the wheat from the ‘chaff-inch’. ‘Location of the Tourist (5,3) – Night Owl which refers to a track on the 1974 Gerry Rafferty album Night Owl, really got the public in a flap.

Having marked all this year’s quizzes, a clutch of entrants will be cooing and preening as they scored 100%, top marks, splitting the prize fund, donated by The Salon, Norden, three ways.

Melanie Caffrey said: “This year’s quiz is once again a feather in Ken’s fundraising cap, raising a very ‘pheasant’ £1,500 for the Hospice.

“Ken’s ingenuity and quick witted clue writing will ensure that our patients receive first class care free of charge.

“Thank you to Ken and to everyone who has joined in with the quiz year upon year and congratulations to the bright sparks who won, Judith and Steve from Stalybridge, Wayne from Littleborough and Ruth from Stockport, your prizes are winging their way to you.”
