International Women's Day celebrated at Castlemere Community Centre

International Women's Day was celebrated at Castlemere Community Centre with Mayor Surinder Biant and Mayoress Cecile Biant in attendance.

Representatives of Healthwatch, Minds, Christie's Hospital, NHS, Rochdale Environmental Action Group (REAG) made presentations about services they provide. 

Chairwoman Anwar Bib and treasurer Nasima Khan welcomed everyone and outlined the achievements of the Multicultural Women's Association.

Ghulam Rasul Shahzad recited verses of the holy Qur'an and provided the agenda for the meeting.

Mayoress Cecile Biant said she was pleased to see women taking the lead role and to have achieved so much during a short period of time. She mentioned various issues affecting women and the need for women to get together and try to solve those issues affecting them.

Kate Jones, Chief Executive of Healthwatch, Christine Mathewson, Governor of Christie Hospital and the Chairwoman of Rochdale Environmental Action Group (REAG) and representatives of the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS  all gave presentations and explained the services they provide.

There were stalls from the Rochdale District Mind, Christine Hospital and Healthwatch.

A bouncy castle was provided for children and there was arts and craft facility for children and adults.

Mrs Bibi thanked the Mayor and Mayoress, presenters, the representatives of various organisations, stall holders and all who attended, along with Mr Shahzad for his support in organising the event.

he also thanked Councillor Sameena Zaheer and the Rochdale Township  for their support in organising the event.
