Festival of Performing Arts concert

Date published: 08 March 2016

Rochdale Music Service put on a spectacular performance at the Festival of Performing Arts with three bands playing together in front of a large audience, which included Mayor Surinder Biant and other councillors from across the Borough, on Saturday evening (5 March).

The bands in attendance were Rochdale Youth Wind Band, led by Musical Director Cathie Brooks from Rochdale Music Service. The combined bands were the Band of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment led by bandmaster WO Class 1 GW Holden and The Band of the Lancashire Artillery Regiment led by bandmaster WQ Class 1 S Housden.

In April 2015 the combined bands travelled 8,000 miles to the Falkland Islands, South Atlantic, to take part in the Queen’s birthday parade and a range of community concerts. Following on from this the combined bands performed in York for the Royal Gun Salute to celebrate the official birthday of Her Majesty The Queen.

The Concert organiser Peter Reynolds organised the concert as part of Rochdale Youth Festival of Performing Arts, which is being run across Rochdale from Friday 26 February to Sunday 20 March 2016. The festival is run annually during the same period. 2016 is the 54th year that the youth festival has taken place.
