Driver seriously injured after not wearing seatbelt

Date published: 07 March 2016

A man in his 30s was rushed to hospital with a serious but “avoidable” head injury after he crashed his car into a tree and went flying into the passenger side window due to not not wearing seatbelt.

North West Air Ambulance, police officers and paramedics arrived on the scene at Cloverhall Crescent, Belfield on Sunday (6 March) morning and removed the injured man from the vehicle. The man suffered a head wound and a broken ankle.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers attended the scene after the car had gone into a tree, and we found that the driver was seriously injured and was bleeding from a head wound.

“He came out of his seat and his the passenger side window on the other side of the car. It appears he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, so this could have been avoidable.”

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: “Paramedics were on scene at 10.46am along with the air ambulance, although in the end the services of the ambulance were not needed and it remained on standby.

“The man was taken to Salford Royal Hospital in a normal ambulance where he is now being treated.”
