Former Parklands Nursing Home could be converted into house of multiple occupancy

Date published: 04 March 2016

The former Parklands Nursing Home building, which was closed down early last year, could be being turned into shared accommodation.

Parklands House on Falinge Road finally closed its doors on 23 January 2015 after repeatedly failing to meet standards, and was declared inadequate by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Now a planning application has been made to turn the building into a 57 bed house of multiple occupancy.

Mark Robinson, Head of Planning at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “We’ve received a planning application to change the use of the former Parklands nursing home at 87-89 Falinge Road to a 57 bed house of multiple occupancy. The council is currently considering this application and a decision will be made in due course.”

A HMO (House of Multiple Occupancy) means:

  • A house split into bedsits where the tenant has exclusive use of their room but shares a kitchen or bathroom and WC.
  • A house or flat share with three or more tenants who are not related to each other.
  • Students living in shared accommodation where they have exclusive use of the whole house.
  • An owner-occupier with more than two lodgers who have a licence to occupy their accommodation.
