Date published: 03 March 2016

Detectives investigating the murder of Mosque leader Jalal Uddin have arrested a third man.

The 21-year-old has been detained on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and has been taken into police custody for questioning.

On the morning of 18 February, officers were called by paramedics to a play area on South Street, Wardleworth, following reports that a man had been found injured.

64-year-old Jalal Uddin was found with a serious head injury. He was taken to hospital but sadly died a short time later.

Superintendent Alistair Mallen from GMP’s Rochdale division said: “Our investigation into the murder of Jalal remains ongoing and this morning we have arrested a 21-year-old man, who will be questioned by detectives later today.

“I would again like to thank the community for their patience and support whilst we carry out our enquiries and continue to appeal for any witnesses who may have been in the South Street area at the time of the attack, to please contact police.”

Anyone with information should contact Greater Manchester Police on 0161 856 4711 or 101, or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
