You can stay: RBH grant eviction family a fresh tenancy

Date published: 01 March 2016

A pregnant woman, Kirsty Morris,  who was facing eviction after a family death has spoken of her relief after being told that she can stay.

Kirsty has been fighting to keep the Middleton property after the tragic death of her mother left the home she lived in with her mother legally vacant, meaning she, her partner, young daughter and unborn child could have been made homeless.

The family has now been offered a tenancy in the property, and the worry is over for the family.

Family friend Linda Scott, who was helping the family petition for the property, said: “RBH proved they are capable of compromise and for that we are thankful to them. Personally I am delighted with the outcome.

Kirsty, 24, said: “It’s such a relief that we get to stay living here, the alternative didn’t bear thinking about.

A spokesperson for Rochdale Boroughwide Housing said: “As RBH set out we fully understand what a difficult time this is for Ms Morris and as promised we have worked with her to resolve the situation.

“As part of this we have looked at how we support the family together with the affordability of the home, the legal position and the housing needs of other local families. We have let Ms Morris know that one of the options open to her is a tenancy at this home and we understand that this is her preferred option.”
