The council has announced that two new markets could be opened in the town centre.
The £3m project, which would see stalls opening on The Butts and South Parade, are part of a larger plan to create a permanent outdoor market.
Officers said that the plans follow the closure of the indoor market in Rochdale Exchange last year.
John Searle, director of economy at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “The council is currently looking at a number of options for the provision of a permanent outdoor and indoor market in Rochdale town centre. This includes an assessment of suitable locations.
“This process is taking place at the moment and no decision has been made. Creating a more vibrant market is one of the council’s key priorities and we hope to make a decision on the market’s future location in the coming months.”
