Over 160 large scale models of railway locomotives, traction engines and other fine miniatures made by model engineers from clubs across the North West of England were on show at Middleton Arena today (Saturday 27 February).

The organisers of the exhibition were overwhelmed by the response from the public. By early afternoon over 650 visitors had passed through the doors at the Middleton Arena, showing that model engineering is alive and well in the area.

Bob Hayter, chairman, said: “This is the first time that Manchester Model Engineering (MMEX) has had an exhibition in the north since the 2004 Warrington show.

“MMEX is a pure model engineering exhibition.”

One of the main features was ‘Timpdon Lake’, a 16mm scale (32mm gauge) live steam layout.

Five-year-old Isaac Journeaux said: "It was lots of fun." Four-year-old brother, Noah added: "There were lots of trains and models to see."

The exhibition provided a good, comprehensive show with much to see plus trade suppliers.
