Date published: 27 February 2016

A 21-year-old man has been re-arrested on suspicion of murder by detectives investigating the death of Jalal Uddin in Rochdale.

Detectives investigating the murder executed a warrant on Ramsay Street, Rochdale on Monday 22 February 2016 and arrested a 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of murder and seized a Vauxhall Astra.

Both were bailed until 20 April 2016.

However, detectives have since uncovered new evidence, allowing them to re-arrest the 21-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

He remains in police custody for questioning.

Detective Chief Inspector Terry Crompton of the Greater Manchester Police Major Incident Team said: “This investigation remains a high priority for us and as such significant work is being carried out to ensure we bring those responsible to justice.

“As a result of this excellent work by our officers and detectives, as well as help from the community, new evidence has come to light which has allowed us to once again arrest this 21-year-old man on suspicion of Jalal’s murder.

“I would again like to thank the community for their patience and support whilst we carry out our enquiries.

“Despite this update, however, we are continuing to appeal for witnesses who may have been in the South Street area at the time of the attack and I would urge anybody with information to please contact police.”

Anyone with information should please contact officers at GMP’s Major Incident Team on 0161 856 4711 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
