Statement from Greater Manchester Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd in response to State of Policing report

Date published: 25 February 2016

“This is a positive report that should give the communities of Greater Manchester confidence that GMP is providing a good service and is working hard to protect our streets and our homes. It is also testament to the hard work and dedication of officers, PCSOs and staff who put their own safety on the line each day to keep us safe.

“GMP could not do this without the strong partnerships that exist across Greater Manchester, bringing councils, the NHS and other agencies, and voluntary groups together with the police. This enables us to meet these challenges head on so it’s great to see this highlighted in the report.

“Good leadership is about instilling confidence in your workforce to take responsibility for decision-making and problem-solving. I’m really pleased to see that HMIC have recognised that local officers know their communities the best, so it makes sense to empower them to work with partner agencies to tackle the issues that matter.

“I will continue to ensure we all work together to improve the service to the public and make our communities stronger and safer.”
