A safe was ripped from the wall causing “significant damage” during an early morning break in at Rochdale Rugby Union Club on Sunday (21 February).
Officers arrived on the scene at Moorgate Avenue at 6.00am after calls that the building had been broken into.
A police spokesperson said: “Officers received the call and were on the scene within three minutes. It was confirmed that a burglary had taken place.”
Steve Helliwell, Club President said: “RRUFC will never be beaten by those who care to take away what we work so hard for.
“We provide our many facilities for the people of our town, it takes a lot of work and care to manage all these.
Our members showed up to help and I received many offers of help with the clearing up, etc. Especially from the Minis & Juniors section.
“Our colts teams turned out to welcome teams from Barrow and Chester. The minis came to help with litter picking, our members brought their expertise to secure the club, and turned out in force to support the club and the rugby played and our Sunday crew turned up to help us replace what has been stolen from us.
“How very proud of them all I am. A true well done is deserved to you all, and many thanks.”
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward by calling 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
