Petrus receives £9,950 for communal garden

Date published: 23 February 2016

Petrus has secured a grant of £9,950 from the Pocket Parks fund to develop a recreational communal garden area for local residents to relax and enjoy at its Incredible Medical community gardening project which opened last year and is next door to the Croft Shifa Medical Centre.

It will be a place where people can meet and come together, bring a picnic, meet the people on the allotment and find out about what activities are happening in the local area.

Rachael Bennion, Petrus Engagement & Development Worker, said: “We are delighted to have secured this money which will enable us to purchase all the equipment and goods needed to create an attractive amenity for members of the local community and people visiting the health centre and those who work or are visiting local businesses and groups like the Council for Voluntary service who are across the road.”

The land is owned by the Eric Wright Group who have leased it to Petrus on a peppercorn rent and the project has been supported by councillors and officers of Rochdale Borough Council.

Communities Secretary Greg Clark said: “More than 80 unloved and neglected urban spaces across the country will be transformed into green oases for everyone to use, thanks to a share of a £1.5 million dedicated fund.”
