Manchester Victoria and Salford Central will be closed from Friday 25 March to Sunday 3 April

Date published: 23 February 2016

Manchester Victoria and Salford Central will be closed from Friday 25 March to Sunday 3 April, as Network Rail starts the preparation work for the Ordsall Chord development.

The 11 day temporary closure means train services will not be running to or from Manchester Victoria or Salford Central. However, trains will still run to other stations within the city. Revised timetables will be in place, including some replacement buses. Timetables will be available on this page as soon as they are completed. From 29 February, you can check before you travel.

This section of work will see engineers aligning existing track near Manchester Victoria and strengthening arches. This is in preparation for the Ordsall Chord development, which will connect Manchester Victoria, Piccadilly and Oxford Road stations by 2017.

Once complete in December 2017, the Ordsall Chord will provide many benefits to the Greater Manchester and wider areas. It will help to support the delivery of faster, more frequent and direct train services.

Including:

  • Two new fast trains per hour between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool.
  • Six fast trains per hour between Leeds and Manchester.
  • Faster journeys across the north.
  • A new direct service through Manchester city centre to Manchester Airport.
  • Faster journey times to Hull, Newcastle and the North East.
