Police are continuing to appeal for information following the murder of Jalal Uddin.
The 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy arrested remain in police custody for questioning.
Assistant Chief Constable Rebekah Sutcliffe said: “We continue to keep an open mind about the motive behind this attack, but there is currently no evidence to suggest that race was a factor.
“We are maintaining additional police patrols in the area and we would like to thank the community for the engagement and support that we have experienced from them.”
Anyone with information should please contact officers at GMP’s Major Incident Team on 0161 856 4711 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
