CommuniTea Greater Sports taster day

Date published: 20 February 2016

CommuniTea hosted a ‘Sports Taster Day’ for women at the Wardleworth Community Centre on Tuesday (17 February) as a consultation exercise to find out what kind of sports women are interested in and to establish the reasons why they don’t take part in any health and fitness activities.

A questionnaire was completed by all participants to gather information, including the kinds of provision they need or look for.

Various sports and fitness activities took place, with the popular ones being circuit training‬‬‬, zumba‪, table tennis‬‬‬, basketball‬ and softball.

Participants were also able to get information about health and wellbeing from CommuniTea, Living Well and Rochdale & District Mind.

Healthy snacks were on sale courtesy of the ‪CommuniTea Room‬‬‬.

The event was possible with the help and support of Link 4 Life, Sporting Equals and Greater Sport’s campaign This Girl Can.

The evaluation will now form the basis of the kind of activities/provision to be provided in the future to get people active and feel healthier.

Lilly Choudhury, Neighbourhood Community Worker based at CommuniTea, said: “It was a great day with lots of women attending throughout the day trying out different sports.

“We will now evaluate the information and look at putting on sports activities in the future with the facts established and work with local providers to ensure more women have the provision in place to get active.”
