Young artists take over Touchstones Rochdale

Date published: 20 February 2016

Young people at Touchstones Rochdale have been spending their Saturday afternoons learning new art skills as part of Greater Manchester Youth Network’s GiveGetGo! project.

Four young people have been taking part since November 2015 to complete their Arts Award Explore qualifications. They have taken part in a range of activities including photography, sculpture and mixed-media collage, as well as exploring the link between participatory arts and emotional wellbeing.

Arts Award Adviser and GMYN youth worker, Quina Chapman said about the project: “The young people on this project have all worked really hard and should be proud of themselves. Everyone has tried something new and worked outside of their comfort zone, something which isn’t always easy, and everyone has had the chance to create some amazing artwork.”

Tom Besford, Arts & Heritage Manager, Touchstones Rochdale, added: “It’s great to be able to support young people in achieving their Arts Award Explore qualifications here at Touchstones Rochdale. Having met them, I can see their clear passion and enthusiasm for the arts will stand them in good stead in their future careers.”
