Helen Stott, who lives in the area, said: “I note United Utilities said fixing the leak was complex, had to be planned in, could take some time, etc. and this is basically the reason it's not been fixed earlier.

“I had written to them four times in the last three years.

“As such I just thought I'd let you know that on 5 February when I ran past there, the road had already been dug up, by one night last week the leak was fixed.

“I've just been running again on Monday (15 February) and the hole has been filled and the road put back, you wouldn't know there had ever been a leak.

“Coincidence that they have managed to fix it so quickly after your report was posted.”
